ERIC RIES is an entrepreneur and author of the popular blog Startup Lessons Learned. He co-founded and served as CTO of IMVU, his third startup, and has had plenty of startup failures along the way. He is a frequent speaker at business events, has advised a number of startups, large companies, and venture capital firms on business and product strategy, and is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Harvard Business School. Hallo Zusammen,bei einer Buchrezension geht es nicht nur um den Inhalt, sondern um das Gesamterlebnis "Buch". Erst recht in unserer digitalen Zeit.Dies ist qualitativ das schlechteste Buch, dass ich je in den Händen hielt. Die Seiten sind sehr dünn (60g?) und durchsichtigt. Cover und Rückseite auch extrem dünn, so dass das ganze Buch in den Händen hin und her wabbelt. Unfassbar.Ich meine, das ist keine Tageszeitung ...Den Inhalt bewerte ich an dieser Stelle nicht.
Das Buch ist eine Pflichtlektüre für alle Manager in der Softwareentwicklung. Wenn der Eine oder Andere denkt, dass dies ein Buch für Startups ist, liegt falsch. Eric Ries definiert Startup als ein Vorhaben das unter grosser Unsicherheit bezüglich Marktchancen entwickeln wird.Der Lean Startup-Ansatz zeigt einen Weg auf, wie man genau mit dieser Unsicherheit umgeht. Mit den drei Komponenten VISION, STEER und ACCELERATE wird ein Ansatz vorgestellt, der es erlaubt während aller Phasen der Produktentwicklung die Marktchancen zu evaluieren und die Produktentwicklung zu steuern.Der Grundgedanke des Lean Startup Ansatzes ist es kleine Produktinkremente zu entwickeln, diese (potentiellen) Kunden zur Verfügung zu stellen und das Feedback in die weitere Entwicklung einfliessen zu lassen. Eric Ries zeigt, dass dies in allen Phasen der Produktentwicklung möglich ist. Dies beginnt bereits mit der Produktvision.Was mir persönliche gut gefallen hat, ist die ausführliche Vorstellung und Anwendung der Techniken, wenn man die Produktentwicklung in eine andere Richtung lenken muss, da das Produkt am Markt “nicht funktioniertâ€.Das Buch ist kein Ratgeber, der das Konzept vorstellt und folgend die Implementierung diskutiert. Vielmehr beschäftigt sich das Buch mit dem Lean Startup Konzept ans ich. Die konkrete Implementierung wird nur am Rande gestreift.Der Praxisbezug geht durch das Beispiel der eigenen Firma von Eric Ries nicht verloren und man merkt, dass der Lean Startup-Ansatz aus der alltäglichen Arbeit entwickelt wurde und nicht auf einem theoretischen Ansatz aufsetzt.Eric Ries hat mit “The Lean Startup†aus meiner Sicht einen sehr wichtigen Beitrag für die Entwicklung von Software-Produkten und -Services geschaffen. Wie ich bereits eingangs bemerkt habe: Pflichtlektüre für alle Manager in der Softwareentwicklung.
We learn from experience. We like to share our ideas in order to warn others, to teach them thinking differently. That is what Eric Ries an I have in common. I had first Start-Up experiences hands on in 1994 to 1996 and I rode my book about 10 years later because I saw the same mistakes occur over the years on so many start-ups. Eric is the next generation but he published his books also 10 years after his first start-up experience. This generation learned faster because the pace of innovation grew by the time.now back to the book:He gives us useful insights from his experiences that may teach you lessons on how to manage start ups and how to evaluate results different from standard business.I found interesting his basic ideas about- testing assumptions about customers behavior using minimal viable products (I call this market readiness check)- product/market fit and growth engines that work in specific customer groups- and how he tied it together giving good adviceThis book helps to understand that the management of start-ups requires to think differently. From management perspective and from investor's point of view.This book is piece of mind of an entrepreneur who wants to share his experience and insights, it is not a textbook on Management. But it might serve the same purpose with lots of success.May be this kind of books teaches us better to learn from experience and stories told instead of reading text books, where we find engineered management techniques which result finally in "theatre KPIs" how Rice calls it.His ultimate sentence to which I agree fully is where he talks about the attitude that the "lean start up" approach teaches:"We would respond to failure and setbacks with honesty and learning, not with recrimination and blame."
Selbst wer die Lean-konzepte (Toyota, 5W, ...) bereits kennt kann hier noch etwas lernen bezüglich der richtigen Messung, sowie der Anwendung der Konzepte in der Geschäfts-, Produktentwicklung. Etwas kurz kommen die Messmethoden in mehrdimensionaler Hinsicht (DoE) sowie die Übertragung auf Agile Methoden in der Programmierung (Scrum).Dafür ist das Buch stellenweise recht langatmig geschrieben und das letzte Kapitel vollkommen überflüssig.Nichtsdestotrotz längst ein Standardwerk (der ohnehin alles hypenden Startup-Szene) und das zurecht!
Diese Buch habe ich nicht zu Ende gelesen, weil es so unglaublich zäh geschrieben ist.Das Prinzip an sich ist super, aber nur durch das Buch hatte ich das Prinzip nicht verstanden.Das Lean Startup Seminar aber, das ich dazu besucht habe, hat mir unglaublich viel gebracht. Erst mit dem Seminar habe ich verstanden was hinter der Lean Startup Methode steckt und die Methode an sich hat mir die Augen geöffnet.Also lieber ein Seminar dazu besuchen und aktiv anwenden/üben, als sich durch dieses unglaublich langweilig geschriebene Buch durchkämpfen.Methode 5 Sterne, Buch 0 Sterne
